Over 86 per cent of Higher Secondary students in Bengal passes out this year in West Bengal

Kolkata, 27 May : Sovan Modal and Rajarshi Barman, two 18 year old students from Birbhuim and Coochbewhar districts have jointly secured the top poition in the class 12 examinations of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Examinations(WBCHSE), the results of which were declared here today.
Announcing the 2019 results, WBSHSE Chairperson Mahua Das said here today that this year a record number of  86.29 per cent of the total 8,16,283 students, who appeared for this final school leaving examinations, have become successful with over 75 per cent of them securing the first division.
Referring to the tremendous success of students from various far flung districts this year like what happened during the Secondary examinations also, Das said of about 150 students who secured the top ten sports in the examinations, as many as 48 were girls and only five of them came from various Kolkata based schools.
Further elaborating this year’s results,the WBSHSE Chairperson said while both Sovan and Rajarshi, the students of Birbhum District Higher Secondary School and Jenkins High School of Coochbehar town respectively, have secured a total marks of 498 out of 500 ( 99.60 per cent) each to secure the first position, they were closely followed by six other students including a girl,all of whom secured  total marks of 496 (99.20 per cent) for the second position.
Among these six students two belonged to Coochbehar disitrct, while the rest are from South and North 24 Parganas, Nadia and East Midnapore districts.
Similarly four other students from Hooghly,East Burdwan and North 24 Parganas districts have secured 494 marks each(98.20 per cent) to clinch the third spot, and six others,from five districts have secured a total marks of 492 each (98.40 per cent) to get the fourth position.
Of these six students only  one – Shreyashi Sarkar is a student of Kolkata based Taki Multipurpose Girls High school.
While all these students belonged to the Science stream, among the Arts students Rakesh Dey of Saithia Town High School of Birbhum District who has become overall 4th along with five others,stood first among the Arts students,securing 492 marks.
Similarly in Commerce stream Kamal Saha of Gyanbharati Vidyapith and Komal Singh of National High School, both in Kolkata, have jointly gained the top spot by security a total marks of  486 each.
Rabea Alam and Mohammad Tanzim in Urdu section,Shayanka Sherpa in Nepali and Biswanath Mddi, Anita Murmu and Sanka Hembram  in Santhali have stood first in their respective stream,Das said.
