Running of suburban trains in Bengal remains normal

Kolkata, 3 May (HS): In spite of the possibility of Fani making a landfall in West Bengal this afternoon is looming large, all out efforts are being made by Eastern Railway to maintain normal services of subereban trains from both Howrah and sealdah stations today.
According to ER sources here, in spte of heavy rain in several South Bengal districts prior to Fani normal suburban train services were being maintained at Howrah-Burdwan Chord line, and in New Farakka and Gumani sectios sections besides in the Asansol divisions since early this morning. However, there might be slight delay in the running of trains because of safety stipulations, they said.
Though untill now that there was no cancellation of any EMU or Mail or Express trains under ER, 22201 Sealdah – Puri Duronto Express from Sealdah continued to remain cancelled since yesterday. In order to properly respond to passengers queries a number of Special enquiry counters had been opened at different stations under Sealdah Division including those at Sealdah, Canning, Diamond Harbour, Namkhana, Lakshmikantapur, Baruipur, Sonarpur, Jadavpur, Barrackpore, Naihati, Kalyani, Ranaghat, Krishnanagar, Berhampore Court, Barasat, Bongaon, Hasnabad and Kolkata stations, sources added.
But 13005 Up Howrah – Amritsar Mail which was scheduled to leave Howrah tonight at 07.10 p.m. from Howrah station had also been cancelled because of late running of the corresponding down train, they added.
